Samsung Reportedly Building Auto DeX to Mirror Phones on Car Displays

Samsung is said to be working on an in-car interface called Auto DeX that mirrors smartphone apps on vehicle displays, offering a layout familiar to Android Auto users. The project aims to adapt phone content for easier, touch-friendly control while driving.

Leaks suggest the interface will mimic the split-screen approach used by its rivals, and may support thousands of car models, though the software is reportedly in very early development and could be limited to China.

What Auto DeX looks like?

A screenshot shared by leaker @GalaxyTechie shows Auto DeX using a three-column layout. A narrow left column displays frequently used app icons, the center area is dedicated to navigation, and the right column can host media controls like a music or podcast player or a Now Briew widget.

The arrangement mirrors the look and function of existing systems that adapt smartphones for car screens, prioritizing navigation in the center and quick access to media and apps on the sides.

Compatibility and availability

@GalaxyTechie claims Auto DeX will support more than 8,500 car models from 120 brands, and published a list of compatible vehicles.

However, the feature is reportedly in a very early stage of development and is not yet ready for public release. There is also uncertainty about where it will be offered.

Reports indicate Samsung might limit Auto DeX to China, a market where Android Auto and many Google services are restricted. If that proves true, global availability could be unlikely.

How much to believe

The leak comes from a single informant, and the project is described as early-stage, so details could change substantially before any official announcement.

Until Samsung confirms Auto DeX or demonstrates a working build, treat the compatibility claims and regional availability as tentative.
