LG Shows CLOiD, a Humanoid Concept Aiming to End Household Chores

At CES in Las Vegas, LG laid out its vision for household robotics with a concept it calls CLOiD. The company pitched the project as a step toward a future where robots take on nearly all domestic work.

Robot design and mobility

CLOiD is presented as a humanoid-like helper. It has mobile lower limbs, an articulated midsection that lets it bend at the waist, and an upper half made up of a sensor-packed head and limb structures that resemble hands.

LG says the robot can walk and bend at the waist. Its hand-like appendages offer up to seven degrees of freedom.

Sensors, communication, and onboard intelligence

The head combines a sensor suite with a display, speaker, and microphones for two-way interaction. CLOiD is designed to respond to voice commands, either through facial expressions or spoken replies.

LG also says the final product would use its own artificial intelligence systems: a Vision Language Model for recognizing the environment and a Vision Language Action system for reacting to stimuli.

Smart home integration and ambitions

LG is explicit about its goals. CLOiD is meant to integrate with smart homes, most tightly with LG-branded appliances. If your fridge, dishwasher, washer and TV are all LG, the company says the robot would work closely with those devices and handle a large share of household tasks.

Timing and productization

LG did not provide a timeline for turning the CLOiD concept into a commercial product. The company only described the project as a central pillar of its smart-home strategy aimed at eliminating household chores.
