Working as an IT at The Residences at Commonwealth, my daily tasks could easily fall into a predictable cycle, check emails, fix the same printer problem, update spreadsheets, repeat. But here’s the thing: IT doesn’t have to be boring.
I call it my “Anti-Boring” approach to work.
1. Turn Routine Tasks into Little Experiments
Instead of just fixing something the same way every time, I try new methods.
- If a computer is slow, I won’t just run the usual cleanup—I might test a new diagnostic tool or script.
- If I’m creating a report, I see if I can automate parts of it with Google Apps Script.
This way, even repetitive jobs feel like mini challenges.
2. Blend Work with Creativity
One example: our parking QR receipt system.
I could’ve made it plain and functional… but why not make it look nice, branded, and professional? Now every receipt has our logo and a clean layout. Small details like that make work more satisfying.
3. Learn While Solving Problems
When something breaks—whether it’s a Wi-Fi router or a CCTV feed, I treat it like an opportunity to learn something new. Sometimes I discover a feature I never used before, or a shortcut that saves time later.
4. Share What You Learn
Writing posts here on AaronBytes is also part of my anti-boring approach. Sharing tips, tools, and even little stories from my work makes me appreciate what I do more, and maybe helps someone else, too.
