Google says it will tighten Gemini’s integration with Google Home to address the platform’s long-standing gaps. The move was announced at Google I/O and aims squarely at making home automation easier to create and manage.
If you struggle to design useful automations, Gemini will scan your connected devices and offer relevant suggestions. You will also be able to simply describe a desired outcome, and Gemini will construct the automation for you.
Smarter triggers and weather-aware automations
Google is adding new automation triggers that rely on richer data signals and environmental conditions. That means automations can respond more flexibly to things like local weather or other context, rather than only basic timers or device states.
Camera features gain AI-powered descriptions and search

Google is expanding camera capabilities in Home. Beyond live view, event history access, and camera settings, users will be able to have AI describe what is happening in front of the camera and search through past recordings using AI-powered queries.
Home Summary widget for Pixel devices
Google is working on a Home Summary widget for Pixel phones to let users check their homes at a glance without opening the Home app. The company is currently testing the widget with a limited group of users, so a wider rollout could take some time.
New Home API partners and an incremental rollout
The updated Home API will add support for partners, including Yale, iRobot, Cync, Motorola Moto Tag, and Tuya Smart. Google says most of these updates will arrive over the course of this year.
