Google is preparing a redesigned Home app that replaces Google Assistant with Gemini, aiming to simplify smart home control while adding new features. Android Authority obtained an early look at build v3.41.50.3 ahead of Google’s event on October 1.
Gemini takes center stage

The new opening screen prominently introduces “Gemini for Home.” Gemini appears to be the primary conversational interface, supplanting the existing Assistant experience inside the app.
Hints about new hardware and subscription

The preview also mentions Google’s forthcoming Google Home Speaker, noting it will offer 360-degree sound. There’s a note that some features will require a new Google Home Premium subscription.
Interface refresh and reorganized menus
Google has updated numerous icons and menus across the app. Tabs like Activity and Automation have been moved, received new icons, and now sport a slightly different look. The screenshots suggest a new Create button in the UI, though Android Authority’s leak does not provide details about its exact function.
Conversation features and feedback
The Ask Home conversation screen in the early build was not yet functional, which was expected. Users will be able to give thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback, refresh a response via a reload button, and start a new conversation from a button in the top-right corner.
What’s next?
Android Authority published screenshots and a video showing the changes, but Google’s official reveal is scheduled for October 1. The hands-on look is intriguing, but the final app and feature set will only be confirmed at the event.
