Samsung Begins Staged Rollout of Android 16 for Galaxy S23 Line, Fold and Flip 5, A55/A35

Samsung has started pushing its Android 16-based One UI 8 to select devices in waves, prioritizing phones that joined the public beta. Early recipients are getting a smaller balancing update that converts the beta build into the final release.

The initial rollout began this week in South Korea and covers flagship and midrange models ahead of a broader global launch slated for October 2, according to Samsung Brazil.

Which phones are included in the first wave?

The South Korea update targets these models:

Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra and S23 FE

Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5

Galaxy A55 and A35

Download sizes and what’s inside the update

The balancing update for beta devices is about 470 MB. A full upgrade from One UI 7 to One UI 8 requires roughly 3.2 GB on flagship and foldable phones, and about 1.9 GB on midrange models.

The release bundles the new One UI 8 system and the September security patch.

Features and availability

One UI 8 builds on the previous version with a string of incremental but practical improvements across the system and Samsung apps. Expect productivity tweaks, more reliable multitasking, and several refinements in core system applications.

Samsung Brazil lists October 2 as the target date to begin global availability for the models named above, so users should check their phones for updates on that day.

What to do now?

If your device was part of the public beta, watch for the roughly 470 MB balancing update. For everyone else, be prepared for the larger full download when your handset receives the One UI 8 package.
