Samsung is adding multi-user voice recognition to its smart refrigerators, powered by the Bixby virtual assistant.
When the fridge recognizes who is speaking, the built-in display can show personalized information for that household member.
Bixby does not support Czech, so Czech-language interaction is not available. The assistant will respond in English.
How does it work in a smart-home context?
Voice recognition itself is a familiar smart-home feature, but Samsung does not currently sell a dedicated smart speaker, so owners rely on appliance-level functionality and phone integration.
On the fridge, a voice command can surface your calendar or a personal photo gallery on the display. You can also ask the refrigerator to ring your phone, which is useful if you have misplaced it.
Accessibility and automatic screen adjustments
The refrigerator display will become more readable for people with vision impairments. After recognizing a voice, the fridge will automatically switch the screen to the display mode set on that person’s phone, such as inverted colors or gray-scale tones.
New activation gesture: double-tap to wake Bixby
Samsung added another way to call Bixby. In addition to tapping the Bixby icon or using voice commands, a double-tap on a turned-off fridge display will now wake the assistant.
Rollout plan and supported models
The Voice ID feature and the new double-tap gesture will land on Samsung Bespoke refrigerators that support the Family Hub smart-home platform. This year’s models will get the update first.
Later, Samsung plans to bring the features to appliances with smaller displays and devices that support AI Home.
