Segway Unveils 17 Robotic Mowers, New Navimow X4 Line Targets Large Yards with Wire-Free Autonomy

Segway revealed 17 new robotic lawn mowers at a press event in Paris, an announcement our editors attended. The new models expand the company’s mower line and push further toward fully autonomous, wire-free yard care.

Wire-free autonomy and smarter mowing

Robot mowers have been around for years, but the need to bury perimeter wires kept many homeowners from adopting them. That barrier is finally eroding. Segway’s latest machines build a virtual map of a property without any physical wire, using integrated cameras and sensors combined with advanced AI and precise satellite navigation.

The mowers evaluate terrain in real time and actively avoid obstacles from patio furniture to pets. Owners set mowing zones and schedules through a mobile app, turning what used to be a bump-into-fence robot into a systemized, deliberate lawn-care tool.

The shift to wire-free operation is not only about convenience. Segway says owners who swap to these robots reclaim the 30 to 50 hours a year typically spent mowing. The mowers use mulching: clippings are left on the lawn as a fine fertilizer, which promotes denser, more resilient turf when not cut every day and allowed to decompose.

Segway Navimow X4 Series

The Navimow X4 Series is aimed at large, complex yards that have challenged earlier robot mowers. Designed for heavy-duty mowing where power, stability, and precision matter, the X4s use four-wheel drive to handle slopes up to 84 percent (40 degrees), a record for robot mowers.

The X4 lineup includes three models that differ by battery size and the maximum area they can cover. The cutting system uses a pair of discs fitted with 12 reinforced blades, driven by two 180 W motors, and managed by an intelligent mowing algorithm with an EdgeSense function.

That combination is intended to deliver clean cuts in dense, stiff, or tall grass and to trim neatly to edges. With a 430 mm cutting width, increased travel speed, and fast charging, the X4s optimize efficiency for large properties. Segway says a 2,000 m² lawn can be mowed in about 8 hours.

No lidar

The Navimow X4 series does not include lidar. Segway positions the omission as acceptable for machines built for wide-open yards, but competitors like Mammotion Luba do include lidar, which can be a competitive advantage.

Key navigation and safety features

Navigation relies on a blend of three-frequency RTK, 360° VSLAM, and visual inertial odometry (VIO) to map properties with centimeter-level accuracy. The EFLS NRTK system removes the need for any external antenna. Users can unpack the mower, place it in its dock, and start automatic mapping.

The map supports up to 120 virtual mowing zones or no-go areas, useful for pools, trampolines, or flower beds, with individual schedules per map.

All X4 models are fully waterproof with IP66 protection. They support Apple Find My and integrate with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Home Assistant. Apple HomeKit support is not included.

Segway’s Xero-turn AWD lets the robots pivot in place while protecting turf, preventing grass tearing or soil disruption. An active steering system ensures precise maneuvering without surface damage, and a traction control system (TCS) continuously adjusts power to prevent wheel slip and maintain grip on low-traction ground.

Model differentiation and availability

The three Navimow X4 models share the same hardware but are configured for different coverage areas. Segway provided a comparison table at the event.

All three Navimow X4 models will be available in the Czech market starting March 31. The Navimow X420 is among the announced models.
