Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3.0 Brings Android 16 Optimizations, Super Island, and Faster Performance

Android 16 arrived three months earlier than recent years, and Xiaomi is moving quickly to fold it into its own OS. HyperOS 3.0 mixes design tweaks, performance claims, and a few features that will feel familiar to iPhone users.

The finished HyperOS 3.0 is slated for a fourth-quarter release, with internal and public betas running on select devices ahead of that. Xiaomi has also published the first three waves of its public beta schedule for the Chinese market.

Performance and system-wide optimizations

Xiaomi says HyperOS 3.0 includes broad under-the-hood changes that reduce system power consumption by up to 9 percent. Gaming performance is billed as up to 15 percent higher, and app responsiveness is claimed to be up to 21 percent faster.

The company also reports more than a hundred new or improved animations across the system, part of a general polish effort tied to the Android 16 base.

Design changes and Super Island

On the design front, HyperOS 3.0 introduces Super Island, a pill-shaped element that overlays the front-facing camera and surfaces contextual information. It can show media controls, event notifications, bookings, and other status items.

Super Island mirrors the Dynamic Island concept popularized on recent iPhones, and it is one of several features that echo Apple’s ecosystem interactions.

Apple interoperability and fast transfers

Xiaomi is also adding features to better bridge its devices with Apple hardware. HyperOS 3.0 will allow screen mirroring from Macs and iPads to HyperOS devices, plus a fast data transfer option between Apple and Xiaomi devices.

These integrations aim to make Xiaomi phones play more nicely in mixed-device households, though specifics on compatibility and requirements were not detailed in the beta announcement.

Beta schedule and rollout

The finished HyperOS 3.0 build is expected in the fourth quarter, following internal and public beta testing on selected devices. Xiaomi published a three-wave public beta timetable for the Chinese market.

That schedule applies to China; the global rollout of HyperOS 3.0 will arrive later. Still, the beta device list gives a clear hint about which models will be first in line for the update.
